Our Mission

The mission of The Mindfulness Center is to facilitate the evolution of the standard of health care from one of managing disease to one of fostering health, and to be a model for a new health care paradigm. We fulfill this mission by bringing mindfulness to all dimensions of life, and empowering people to use evidence-based, best practices of self-care, thereby addressing health care disparities by making health care accessible to all.

Enjoy relaxing and rejuvenating classes with our professional therapists and expert faculty! We teach meditation and other mind-body techniques as the foundation for optimal living. Health care should be grounded in self-care practices.

Yoga Flow (All Levels), Stretching & Restorative Yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi, Qigong, Nia Dance, Breathwork and more! Students at all levels or experience are welcome!

Yoga and Meditation Teacher Training 

The Mindfulness Center offers yoga and meditation teacher training programs, focusing on the therapeutic applications of these mind-body practices. Graduates are equipped to lead empowering, evidence-based programs in group, one-on-one and clinical settings.  

Programs sponsored by Yoga Alliance, International Association of Yoga Therapists and the National Association of Social Workers. CEU's available.

Mind-Body Journal aims to reach people who may not have regular access to The Mindfulness Center, and to spread the knowledge and expertise of this center to people on a global basis. This blog features posts about mindfulness, wellness, lifestyle and health, providing information on living a healthier and more mindful life.

Veteran Reintegration Program

The Mindfulness Center's Veteran Reintegration Program provides veterans with group classes, private instruction in mindfulness-based practices, and individual services.

Mind-body therapies, such as meditation, yoga, and tai chi are being used by VA hospitals and military organizations across the country to provide relief from the traumas of war and the mental anguish that follows (Smeeding et al., 2010). Research is demonstrating that mind-body interventions provide a critical safety net in the form of significant therapeutic benefit. Veterans who participate in these practices twice a week for two months experience improved quality of sleep, reduced levels of pain and pain medication, improved family relationships, reduced symptoms of stress and PTSD, and improved overall quality of life (Jordan et al, 2011).

The Mindfulness Center provides free classes for veterans who have been recently deployed, and discounted class rates to all service members. Classes include meditation, yoga, tai chi and other mind-body practices. Individual services available to veterans include evidence-based therapies as approved and used by the VAMC and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, such as acupuncture, mental health counseling, physical therapy, yoga therapy and massage. Services are provided at The Mindfulness Center in Bethesda, Maryland, within 2 miles of Walter Reed Medical Center.
